Misty, water-colored memories

Luis was still bumming hard about the Bears loss today. I guess it put him in the perfect mood to reminisce with Alexi Lalas and Cobi Jones about one of the last times the U.S. lost to Mexico on U.S. soil. It was the final of the 1998 Gold Cup, and a goal by Luis Hernandez was the only one scored in the match.

Luis remembered being one of a small group of American fans - he said there were maybe a hundred people rooting for the U.S. there. Funny thing, it's like he was describing my experience in 2005 in Azteca, when I joined the U.S. fans for the game against Mexico. We were a tiny dot of red-white-and-blue in the stadium.
