Messidona

El Pais does a video comparison of the two goals, calling them, "nearly identical, even to the celebration".

Uncanny! The only difference is that Messi didn't get caught by a defender at the end. However that looks to be because his touch to beat the goalkeeper was a bit heavier than Diego's was. Thanks for sharing that.

That was amazing. Simply amazing.

Those goals are so incredible that if you scored goals like that in a video game, you'd say to yourself "That can't happen in real life."

It is goals like that which remind you that futbol is the beautiful game! What a fantastic goal, that is why we have the word for this in Spanish, "golazo."

The amazing thing is Messi is still only 19 and within one month he's reproduced two of Diego Maradona's most famous goals, as Messi's final goal against Real Madrid was reminiscent of El Diego's goal against Belgium in the 86 semifinal and now this goal almost a duplicate of Maradona's "Goal of the Century" against England.

Our children and grandchildren will be discussing this goal by Messi, it was that good. We are seeing the beginning of a true genius in world football.
