Mum's the word

Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban bolted the Fish for Alabama on Wednesday. Dolphins Owner Wayne Huizenga immediately discussed the team's coaching vacancy.

The Arizona Cardinals fired Dennis Green on Monday, who had disappointing records of 6-10, 5-11 and 5-11 in his three years with the Cardinals. A pair of club officials discussed with the media their own vacancy.

Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora was canned on Monday as well, after the Falcons failed to finish at .500 and missed out on the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Owner Arthur Blank talked about the club's plans to fill their vacancy.

That open communication regarding a coaching search has sadly not carried over into MLS. Chivas USA's own coaching position is vacant, glaringly empty as the MLS combine and draft approach. A year ago, Bob Bradley did the drafting. Two years ago, it was Thomas Rongen.

Chivas has dropped the ball in its coaching search. By keeping the media away, they have not only spurned any possible interest from the public, they are starting to lose some of the credibility they had earned a year ago.

First-class organizations do not hide from the media and are open with such important issues as a coaching vacancy. All three NFL coaching vacancies have been met with an open discussion between team officials and its fans through the media. If the Miami Dolphins can discuss their future coach, why can't Chivas USA?

Surely, the Dolphins could keep their options private but why alienate your fanbase and the media? I guess you'd have to ask Antonio Cue for the answer to that one.
