Name the dreamer
From Mark Abbott's speech about Cobi Jones:
“In the player draft four years ago, we drafted a young player on the New York team. He was seventeen years old at the time and he got up to give his acceptance speech and he said, ‘All my life, I’ve dreamed of playing in Major League Soccer.’”
Would someone care to identify the player?

Eddie Gaven?
Eddie Gaven?
Is it Eddie Gaven?
Well, I was going to guess someone else but I'm going to go with the consensus here and guess Eddie Gaven.
Eddie Gaven was sixteen when he was drafted, not seventeen.
Mike Bradley, yo.
Not Mike Magee, is it?
Ah, yes, Mike Bradley.
Michael Bradley wasn't drafted four years ago.
Not sure about the New York bit but Memo Gonzalez was 17 when he wsa drafted that year...and he's still waiting to play for an MLS team. ;)
Mike Magee was older, at least 18, when he was drafted.
I wasn't trying to confuse anyone, and frankly, I was stumped by it, too. Either Abbott split the difference between the ages of Gaven or Magee or he meant someone else in a different year entirely, or perhaps it was someone not drafted by New York. I'm holding out hope that someone who was at that draft (or watched it) will actually state that they heard the mystery player say the statement in his draft speech.
Kenny Arena.
Well, maybe he said "All my life I wanted for my dad to help me get drafted by an MLS team."
Hey Luis, dem's fighting words. Just hope Ives Galarcep doesn't hear you bring up the nepotism charge on his favorite future Nat star.
Jokes aside, Michael Bradley's been unfairly branded with the nepotism charge, as he's recently proven to most who'll look at how he's playing that he's a well above average player.
And yeah, sounds familiar that it was Eddie Gaven who said that. He grew up a Metrostar fan kiddie.
It makes sense that it was Eddie Gaven - I guess Abbott just forgot that Gaven was sixteen.
It was Mike Magee.
