Is that true? He's the first dude of African ethnicity to coach an MLS team? Thanks for pointing that out. It seems so irrelevant at the time until one reads the sentence and then it's glaringly obvious.
Wow - I think I just got a little too esoteric in that last paragraph but perhaps you know what I mean.
What's a little funny is that I double-checked that info with an MLS press person, and he pointed out that Roy Wegerle, who coached one single match for Colorado in 1996 (they lost), was born in South Africa. So that's why I had to specify the ethnicity, not just say, "Of African heritage", or something. But it is true. What's also interesting is that Gullit has a history with Nelson Mandela, who he counts as a friend.
I hope he brings in the best-named Dutch player ever:
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
Then again, I'd just like to see us reporters trip over that name over and over again.
"In the 85th minute, Vennegoor of Hesselink connected with Donovan for an unlikely give-and-go that resulted in the game's third goal. Vennegoor of Hesselink slipped a through ball to Donovan who ripped a shot on goal. The ball hit the post but Vennegoor of Hesselink slotted it into an empty net. Vennegoor of Hesselink now has three goals on the young campaign."

I hope he brings in some young dutch players like Quincy.
