The games have been very interesting, and some results have been bizarre. The worst team in either group by far, the LA Galaxy, take group A. The best attacking team in the tournament, Dallas, is eliminated. If not for some late penalties, all four Mexican teams could have been eliminated in only two games. Yet a chance for the two best teams Pachuca and Houston to meet in the finals is still possible. The fans and commentators that claim a vast superiority for the Mexican teams are clearly wrong as there's not much difference at all. And for one of the worst MLS teams, Galaxy, to be sitting on top is mind numbing.
My reply:
You're one of quite a few readers to call out the Galaxy for being a poor team. What I'm trying to figure out is how the "worst team" in the tournament scores more goals than any other SuperLiga team - while missing key players like Beckham, Chris Albright, Kyle Martino and Cobi Jones - and still gets little to no credit.
Oh well. I agree with you that Pachuca and Houston are quality, and it's nice to see them both still alive in the competition. I don't think any MLS team has embarrassed itself in SuperLiga.
Also, I'd point out that neither of Morelia's late goals was a penalty.
ReplyDeleteI'm no fan of the Galaxy, but you can't deny that they earned their win over Dallas last night. Absolutely incredible game. You can say a team sucks until you're blue in the face, but if they come out on top then kudos to them for lulling us into a false notion of their weakness. Congrats Galaxy.

ReplyDeleteSurely you meant to add "...before FC Dallas gave up four goals in the first 20 minutes of a game."
