Value for pay

Forget Beckham. That game was amazing. Anyone who didn't show up just because David wasn't there missed out. This one was historic. The goals came so fast and furiously - it was incredible.

First there was LA's dominance, than Dallas' grit to fight back, then LA putting the screws in again - and Dallas still not giving up. Wow.

Anyone still think Dallas fans deserve their money back?

  1. You're right, Andrea! This game was amazing!! One of the best MLS games I've seen, for sure. I think Landon is a villain in Dallas now (if he wasn't before) after that taunt...

  2. The money back line was a joke. But I do expect the teams to play some defense. With all the goals it was like beach soccer out there. Good thing I like beach soccer. It was a great game but the home fans should be upset that Dallas scored 5 goals and still lost. Credit Dallas for not giving up.

  3. indeed on hell of a game - just too bad the most beautiful goal didn't count because it was rightly offside.

cheers for the best MLS blog around - keep up the good work.

Its appreciated aswell over here in Europe - Switzerland to be exact.

  4. In my opinion, this was probably the least competitive Superliga game played. Yes, if you are a Galaxy fan, you like the result and the fact that they advance. And if you are a Dallas fan, I guess you like the fact that your team fought to the end.

But for God's sake, neither team played defense worse a leak. That, I think, is a big explanation for the offensive "explosion."

I actually liked the 2:1 win in the 1st game more.

  5. Very few fans decided to skip the game. By halftime, 95% of the stadium was full. There were confused looks on some late-arriving faces seeing a 4-0 scoreline and not 20 minutes into the game.

  7. NO FAN DESERVES A REFUND. It is a risk inherent to any purchase of tickets.

Only refund in my opinion should be given in the amount of MLS teams jacking up the prices to see Beckham. Return the money to what a regular game ticket and there is your solution.

    A full refund is ridiculous.

  9. I missed the game live last night but just watching the highlights was fatiguing. It appears that Landon is channeling is inner demons in a productive manner.

  10. "One of the best games"???
These posters have to be kidding. That game was one of the worst I have ever seen.
I've seen better marking in youth soccer.
And some people like to argue that MLS teams could play in the low end of some European league! Shameful.

  11. What about Toja being taken down/tripped in the box - and NO CALL??!! Refs were pure crappe. I was there and also saw LD's throat slit gesture. Classless, yet not out of character. We scored 2 goals after that btw.

  12. The game was exciting, the defending was awful, and the refs were atrocious. They decided since Beckham wasn't around, they would be the focal point of the game, just sad. You could find better officials in U-12 rec leagues.

  13. Mediotiempo, the Mexican soccer site, does a little section on just the refs in every game summary they do. They've been covering SuperLiga because the Mexican teams are in it, and they thought the ref last night was fine.

The ref was right on top of the Toja move, so much so that he actually obscured the video of it. It looked like Roberts started to pull up on the tackle, and then I couldn't see what happened, but the ref blew his whistle on that immediately.

    Ruiz was offsides, frankly.

I don't think the defending was that bad - two of Dallas' shots rang in off the post, and those are hard to defend. In fact, Cannon had some great stops, and Dario Sala stood up Landon on a breakaway.

Yes, there were some marking mistakes, but both sides were playing frenzied, attacking soccer. Why is no credit given to offensive effort? It's always got to be bad defending?

Heck, if bad defending leads to more games as thrilling as this one, I'm all for it. I always played as a defender, and I love when a team is well-organized and locks out opponents, but anyone who says this game was terrible because too many goals were scored is crazy in my opinion.

  14. It was a different type of game with lots of offense. If that if that is good or bad is a matter of perspective. I personally enjoy variety while watching sports.

If you want to watch the same thing every week you are in luck the European leagues are starting up soon. You can watch the same teams win every game throughout the year. None of this crazy American Soccer stuff when everyone has a chance every week (RSL if they get some signings quick might have a chance every week). Insane with everyone having a shot at the title except for one club more than halfway through the season.

For the record the relegation system in Europe is a over hyped bunch of crap.

  15. That was not jogo bonito. That was a rather crappy game that I think both teams would be embarrassed of. Dallas didn't really fight back.

  16. AC you are for pure quality football? 11 goals beening scored is just bad defense. It shows that the backlines were crap and that the goalkeeping was terrible. Honestly LAG only had 8 shots on goal and 6 of those shots were goals. So Sala had only 2 saves. He had that one stood of Donovan breakaway and that was it. He lacked mobility last night and should have been pulled as Dallas was allowed (correct me if I'm wrong)to sub the keeper according to tournanmet rules. Some of the Galaxy's goals were just laughable as you wonder what the hell was Dallas doing on those plays. For a casual sports fan or a novice soccer fan that game was great. But to people who watch alot of soccer that looked like sandlot stuff. 11 goals and 9 yellow cards indicates a sloppy game played. I believe you are falling for the arguements of many anti-soccer sports writers when they complain there is not enough scoring in soccer. I'm not against goals being scored, but I like seeing teams play a complete game.

  17. Dallas fans who didn't show because Beckham wasn't there have lost the plot. Too bad they didn't show, they might have actually enjoyed the sport as opposed to looking for a man.

  18. It was exciting because it was pure latin american soccer. Everyone was moving up attacking. If people love good defense that's fine but i'm not one of them seeing who scores more is by far more exciting.

  19. People think these goals were great offense?? On quite a few of the Galaxy goals, Dallas defense just stood and allowed the offensive player to run through them like there were plastic orange cones at training. I have nothing at all against Alan Gordon or Kevin Harmse, they are ok MLS players. But they are not the second coming of Pele or Maradona.

And Galaxy appears to have stopped playing once they went up 4:0, allowing Dallas full control of the flanks and permitting Dallas repeated 1-2 combinations into the penalty area.

So, in my opinion, most of these goals were not exceptional offense, they were just shockingly bad defense. As for goalkeepers, Joe Cannon did just fine, but Sala obviously had issues.

  20. Anyone still think Dallas fans deserve their money back?

I do, given that FC Dallas played like a rec league team in the first 20 minutes of the game, and defeated their own rally by allowing two more cheap goals to rob their fans of an opportunity to see an historic comeback. That game was only entertaining to a) people who don't like soccer and b) soccer fans who think bad defense equals exciting soccer.
