The Gold Cup roster was both anticipated and dreaded by some MLS teams. Losing players at this stage can really affect results.
The Galaxy dodge too much damage, Chivas USA get a glancing blow, the Revs take it on the chin.
GOALKEEPERS (3) – Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton FC), Kasey Keller (Borussia Moenchengladbach)
DEFENDERS (8) –Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham FC), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution), Frank Simek (Sheffield Wednesday), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)
MIDFIELDERS (8) – DaMarcus Beasley (PSV Eindhoven), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Benny Feilhaber (Hamburger SV), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Steve Ralston (New England Revolution)
FORWARDS (4) – Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Taylor Twellman (New England Revolution)
Head Coach: Bob Bradley
Eddie Johnson? Over Kenny Cooper? Bob, what are you doing? What is the obsession with Johnson? Oh well, he is Bob Bradley not Jurgen Klinsmann.
ReplyDeleteOverall, too many re-treads. give the youth a chance.
But at least they will be with their teams through June 2, which doesn't matter for Chivas since they don't play that weekend, but Landon will play against DC United! Go Landon playing against DC United! Go Kinky!
ReplyDeleteYou think the Galaxy aren't hit hard? Sure they are. In fact, they might be the hardest hit team. Without Donovan, they are quite literally nothing. He accounts for all of their goals scored so far this season. When he is on the pitch, the Galaxy are a totally different team.
ReplyDeleteRalston is the only selection that raises an eyebrow for me.
ReplyDeleteA weird mix of youth and experience... some of the experienced are, in the words of commenter j.s., "re-treads" (Ralston, Hejduk, Mastroeni), some of the youth are too raw with little or no international or even high-level experience (Feilhaber, Bradley, Parkhurst, Guzan, Bornstein, Simek)...
ReplyDeletePlayers like Conrad and Pope have shown that experienced MLS veterans are more than capable of handling high-pressure internationals -- I wish Bradley had chosen the likes of Jose Burciaga Jr. and Wade barrett...
Similarly, players like Donovan and Beasley have shown that speedy and skilled domestic forwards can add an element of surprise and unpredictability to the attack, so I wish we could've seen the likes of Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore...
