Holes to fill

My Tuesday column for the Press-Enterprise. With tonight's Open Cup game the first match of the year that neither Landon Donovan nor David Beckham will be available, I took the opportunity to look at what it means for the Galaxy in the short and long term.

  1. l.b., the answer is obvious. The Galaxy has no quality depth (especially in the midfield and in the back) and will turn into suck city w/out Beckham and Donovan.

Beckham is especially pivotal, since he seems to be the only player who knows how to play a ball into the forwards consistently. Who's going to take up that role when he's gone?

The Galaxy's success so far is based solely on Beckham and Donovan, primarily Beckham (see last paragraph). When they're gone, you'll see the real Galaxy.
