Sangre americana update J13

Here's how the American-born players in the Mexican First Division fared in Jornada 13.

Michael Orozco - Played 90 minutes in San Luis' 3-2 win at Pumas. Was somewhat at fault in first Pumas goal but otherwise played solid match.

Jose Francisco Torres - Played 79 minutes in Pachuca's 3-1 win at America. Did well to distribute ball in Tuzos' midfield.

Daniel Hernandez - Played 73 minutes in Jaguares' 2-1 loss to Cruz Azul. Hernandez picked up a yellow card for a scuffle involving Gerardo Torrado late in the first half.

Edgar Castillo - Did not play due to injury in Santos' 0-0 draw at Morelia.

Sonny Guadarrama - Did not play in Morelia's 0-0 draw with Santos.

Jesus Padilla - Did not play in Chivas' 1-1 draw with Atlante.

  1. That's because had we bet the $5, you'd owe me. Padilla is no longer with Guadalajara, he's been playing for El Tapatio for some time now as far as I understand.

Torres is a stud, and one of the little wonderkids Pachuca is producing. Between him, Brambila, Montes, Aguilar, and C.G. Rodriguez, Pachuca has produced 5 future national team prospects... if the US is interested in retaining Torres, they better jump on it. I doubt very much that Pachuca will throw a wrench into his U.S. National Team career the way Guadalajara did to Padilla. Ultimately, it'll be Torres' choice.

  2. Padilla has played mostly with Tapatio this year. He played a lot before he got his first league game this year. That would probably require some sort of injury or three as he's just not developing as quickly as had been hoped.

  3. If Jesus Padilla is playing for Tapatio he could be called in to Chivas' full team on a moment's notice. Tapatio's statistical sheet is full of guys who've played for the senior team this season.

Luis, I've been trying to track down Americans or Mexican-Americans in Primera A and, besides Padilla, so far found Robbie C'debaca at Rayados de Monterrey, Marco Vidal at Indios de Cd. Juarez, Sammy Ochoa at Tecos, and Sonny Guadarrama at Morelia.

Some of these guys may have played for the senior club as well as the Primera A affiliate this season.

  4. To follow up on The Hammer's comment: it doesn't look to me like Torres has ever played for the US in any of the youth programs. Is that so? And if so, why? I don't think he's playing for Mexico either. Seems like he'd be worth a definite look. Maybe for the Olympic squad? (He's 21 now, no?)

  5. garbaggio,

Thanks for the info. I've been scouring for more youth products as well but hadn't delved into the Primera A. Feel free to keep me updated with your own findings.

  6. Are any of these guys players we could see in the national pool?

  7. I think Orozco will be called up to the senior side sometime this year. His play with the Olympic qualifying team merits a look. I think Torres is also another guy who could have a future with the US. Castillo is definitely a no.
