Sorry guys, I am fighting a cold and didn't feel like cutting my sleep short. But my prediction held up for Germany versus Norway.
The Norwegians were gamers, from what I've seen of the tape, but Germany was just too strong for them in the end.
I'll do the running blog tomorrow, though, so feel free to chime in here if you're up.
Hey A.C.,
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know your opinion on the goalie switch. If you ask me, and I know you are not, this could be a case of over-coaching.

Sorry, Jaime, I've been drinking tea and hiding under the covers.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, yes, this does surprise me. Partly because Greg Ryan seemed so loathe to make changes before - I mean, I was screaming at the screen for subs in some games. Then he goes and pulls a goalkeeper switch.
Goalkeeper switches are often kisses of death for teams. It throws off the rhythm of the defense - which you need to be solid. Coaches usually avoid switching goalkeepers like the plague. That's why Kasey Keller didn't see any time in 2002.
What I wonder is, if Ryan would have still done this if Hope was solid gold in the back - clean sheets in every game.
