Ante Jazic really, really didn't like the ending of the Canada/U.S. match.
I mentioned to Luis some of what Jazic had said.
He asked, "Did you tell Jazic you thought the offsides call was actually valid?"
Well, no. But even before the tournament started, I called Canada as the team to threaten the U.S. and Mexico for the title. I agree with Jazic on that point absolutely.
He's right. A lot of people don't realize that Canada was pretty much playing with an experimental lineup in this tournament. Once Canada starts getting some of their U-20s into the senior side like Jamie Peters, Andrea Lombardo, Simeon Jackson, Tosaint Ricketts, David Edgar, and hopefully Jonathan De Guzman, I could definitely see Canada joining the dogfight for top team in CONCACAF.
ReplyDeleteThats a lot of talk from a team that doesn't back it up during WC qualifiying. I'm not saying they can't put up a fight. I'm just saying if you are so good show it on the field. You let a team that had a fireman and teachers a field players beat you 2-1? Jazic said his team played well oh really? How about learning to play some defense and stop giving up 2 goals to minnows and to the US. Playing well in the Gold Cup as Panama found out doesn't mean you will do well in during the Hex. Canada still has a way to go before they can really make those kinds of statements. Not that I would not take them seriously as an opponent its just they need walk before they talk.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that Ante feels good about the Canada team and I welcome more quality teams in CONCACAF. However, Canada has a long ways to go to catch up to US and Mexico in quality. Although they played well against the US, they had the advantage of facing a US team that played their worst game of the tournament. Even with spotty play, US generated more chances and was one Donovan whiff away from going up 3-0; not a score you see when two "evenly matched" teams play each other.
