With the help of your suggestions and some of my own thoughts, I filled out my MLS All-Star ballot. Let me know what you think:
G Brad Guzan
D Eddie Robinson
D Michael Parkhurst
D Jonathan Bornstein
M Guillermo Barros Schelotto
M Carlos Marinelli
M Juan Toja
M Steve Ralston
M Herculez Gomez
F Eddie Johnson
F Juan Pablo Angel
Instead of Ralston and Gomez how about Dorman and Mathis
ReplyDeleteYou can make a strong case for Andy Dorman. I can't tell you why I didn't pick Dorman but rather why I picked Ralston. I just feel that he's had a strong campaign and has been a key part of the Revs and his passing ability is as strong as ever.
ReplyDeleteMathis, too many reds for my taste. He's been rejuvenated somewhat but it's been tempered by the red cards.
Bah. Those red cards were jokes.
ReplyDeleteMLS, on its "grandest" stage, should show us its Clint.
I suppose, though, that Conway and Waterreus cancel each other out (and their lackluster performance over the last few weeks), but how about Carlos Mendes from RBNY, who has quietly been the anchor of one of the best (well, before injuries) defenses in the league?
ReplyDeleteWell to be fair to Mathis, I'd say both red cards were questionable at best. But, he hasn't been playing as well as he was at the beginning of the season, and so I don't really think he belongs on the all star team, either.
ReplyDeleteRalson over Dorman is simple: you need a couple wing players in the midfield. Ralston on the right, and Gomez can play on the left.
What you're missing is a defensive midfielder. Maybe someone like Ricardo Clark or Shalrie Joseph instead of one of the Guille/Marinelli/Toja trio?
Probably not Ralston and certainly not Gomez (he has had a lot of sub-par performances this year). But everything else is on the money, esp the midfield and forwards. Pretty good ballot...
ReplyDeleteI like your picks...although Colorado has been struggling the only bright side has been Herculez Gomez with his tenacity, work ethic and striking ability. His call up to the USMNT for Copa America is a testament to hard work. Mathis, is a BIG no go (for those who suggested him)...he is simply benefitting from those aurrounding him. The rest of your team is solid and well thought out, although Ricardo Clark was a nice suggestion.
